What do you do when you’re not busy being a Chocolate Fairy?
I live in Bristol with my husband and 2 kids. When I’m not doing BC stuff I’m a cancer nurse working in a busy NHS hospital which keeps me very busy. In my play time I love meeting up with friends for beer and giggles. I enjoy dancing either in a club with friends or on my own in my bedroom! My husband and I go to at least one music festival a year so you’ll find us in a field at 2am dancing and laughing with strangers!
Why did you train with Beyond Chocolate?
I first heard of BC in an article several years ago in The Sunday Times, I was ready to find “another way” other than dieting and the article really appealed so I ordered the BC book straightaway and spent the next few months exploring some of the BC principles. I stopped dieting after 20 years of either being on or off a diet. I also attended a local BC workshop which I really enjoyed and then my BC journey began! I decided to do the BC training because I wanted to give myself the time to continue exploring the principles and I felt excited that I would be able to share the BC principles with other woman.
What was the training like?
The training was great it was definitely the best gift I’ve ever given myself. The training took time and commitment which at times I struggled with as life is so busy but it was definitely worth the effort. It was great sharing the journey with other women and seeing how we all changed over the period of the training.
What changed in your life as a result of the training?
Everything has changed! For me the most important issues were looking after myself, getting support from others and being my own guru. I have so much more joy in my life and my life generally feels lighter. I no longer berate myself at the end of each day and I am much kinder to myself and less judgmental. I have a gorgeous underwear drawer full of lovely bras and knickers that fit me, all my clothes fit me and I like them, the local charity shop has done very well out of BC!
What does being a Beyond Chocolate Facilitator/Chocolate Fairy mean to you?
It’s a real privilege to be able to share BC principles with other woman and be part of their own BC journey. I’m really looking forward to sharing BC tools and experiences with women and I’m excited to see how this goes with the drop in groups (starting very soon) and the 1 day retreat I’ll be running in January. I’m still learning and it will be fun to learn with other women who are willing to try another way and give up the scales for good.
What about weight-loss?
I haven’t lost weight with BC- I don’t weigh myself but my clothes are the same size. I’m happy with that because I own my body now and I’m far more accepting of myself and my body. I would still like to loose weight in the future but I now know that the only thing that weight loss will give me is a smaller body the rest of my life will stay the same. Now that I have more support in my life and through tuning in I’m much more away of my body’s needs I think weight loss may come but we’ll see! The freedom of living in my body without feeling guilt or shame is fantastic and I love it.
What’s the 1 best thing about being a Beyond Chocolate Facilitator/Chocolate Fairy?
I don’t know any other community like BC and I’m thrilled to be part of it; a kind, supportive environment where women are valued for things other than their dress size.
