Contribute to our Blog
We are inspired everyday by the voices within the Beyond Chocolate and wider community willing to share stories of vulnerability, challenge, honesty and inspiration as we explore our relationship with food and ourselves. If you have a message of your own, we’d love to hear from you.
If you’d love to share your story but are not sure where to start, or feel unsure how to go about writing a post, we are here to help! We can arrange a phone or email interview. We ask the questions, you answer without worrying about grammar or readability and we will make sure in the edit that it reads beautifully. All you have to do is inspire people!
There are just a few things to keep in mind: WRITING GUIDELINES
Provide original and honest content. This means your post has not previously been published anywhere. This includes your own blog and does not include any sections taken from a previously published post. Make sure you reference any specific research studies with links to appropriate web sites and pages and the same applies when quoting others.
Provide relevant content. Our readers are on the blog to read about women’s relationship with food and their body. There is a lot of scope here! If you are a professional working in this field and the post is about your activity, make sure you highlight how your work overlaps, complements or dovetails with the work we do at Beyond Chocolate. Your content needs to resonate with the community and provide added value to what readers can find on your site.
Include a story from your life. Connect your personal story to the topic of your blog post. It’s far more engaging and empowering for the reader to hear about your life, your challenges, your successes and how you deal with them (or are learning to) than to read tips or theories without a sense of identification with you, the writer.
Offer practical information that will help readers overcome similar challenges. Think about how you would like to encourage the reader to reflect on your topic. It doesn’t have to be a list of tips, just something to bring it back to the reader’s own experience.
Keep your post between 500 – 1000 words and aim to keep paragraphs short, 3 to 5 sentences is a suitable length to aim for. Think about including relevant subheadings within the text.
Images and artwork are encouraged as long as you have permission to use your graphic. If you don’t have an image then we’ll select one for you to support your post.
Your bio is your promotional space and the place to link to your blog, website and social media sites if you are looking to promote yourself. We may delete links to your own content within the posts themselves if we consider them to be inappropriate. If you are a regular ‘punter’ please make sure you provide us with the name you want to use for your post. You can use your first name, just your initials or an alias, whatever you are most comfortable with.
Responding to comments is a great way to connect with your readers and actively encouraged, as is the promotion of your post through your own social media channels.
Edits and Publication
Don’t be offended if we edit your post! We won’t rewrite your post, but may make grammatical changes, title changes, image changes and other minor edits to ensure that the blog stays congruous with our values. If we feel we have made significant changes, we will send you the final edited post to make sure you agree with the content. If we feel a post needs improvement and is not yet suitable for publishing, we will return it to you with suggestions. If your post is the result of an interview with us, we will edit our questions and your answers to ensure readability.
Guest posts may be submitted at any time for our review. Please note that a guest post submission does not guarantee publication but we will keep you updated with the process and will let you know before your post goes live.
